From Managing Systems to Learning the Discipline and Precision of Flight

Testing my first flight after earning the FAA Part 107 certification
When I joined PDS Research Foundation, my focus was simple: support the digital backbone of a growing nonprofit advancing drone technology for environmental and public safety research.
I began as a web administrator, managing systems, designing the website, refining payment workflows, and shaping how our mission was communicated online. My background in cybersecurity and creative technology made that a natural fit.
What I didn’t expect was how much this work would change me.

Being surrounded by engineers and pilots sparked something new. The more I listened to conversations about flight controllers, carbon fiber frames, and aerial design, the more curious I became. I wanted to understand the mechanics behind what we were building, to see how digital systems and physical flight could connect.
That curiosity led me to study for and pass the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification last month.
Learning to Fly
Preparing for the exam was an exercise in focus and discipline. Airspace classifications, weather systems, and communication procedures revealed the structure that makes flight both safe and precise. What began as a professional goal quickly became a deeper understanding of how order and awareness shape every decision in the air.
Flying my first drone brought that knowledge into practice. The hum of the propellers and the balance between control and responsiveness made every adjustment intentional. In that moment, I understood that effective flight is as much about awareness as it is about command.
Since then, I’ve begun experimenting with drone components, and exploring how sensors and software interact through tools. It’s a fusion of creativity and precision that captures what I love most about technology: transforming complexity into clarity, and data into motion.

Looking Forward
I plan to keep advancing my knowledge of drone systems, with a focus on secure design, data integrity, and responsible innovation. Each new skill adds to the mission that brought me here: using technology to create impact that is both intelligent and ethical.
Because the future of flight belongs to those willing to keep learning.
